Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products We Actually Use (and Why)

Every cleaning company in LA says they are "eco-friendly" now. It is basically a checkbox on every website. But I wanted to actually talk about what that means for us at Spotless Scrubbers, because we take it seriously and I think you deserve to know what is being used in your home.

Why We Went Eco-Friendly

Honestly? It started personal. I have family members with allergies and sensitivities. When I started this company, I thought about what I would want someone bringing into my own home around my family. The answer was not bleach fumes and harsh chemicals.

The more I researched, the clearer it became. Traditional cleaning products contain stuff like ammonia, chlorine, and phthalates. These can irritate your lungs, trigger asthma, and leave residue on surfaces where your kids and pets hang out. Not worth it when better alternatives exist.

What We Actually Use

I am not going to pretend we use one magic product for everything. Different surfaces need different solutions. Here is a breakdown of what our teams carry:

All-Purpose Cleaner: We use plant-based, biodegradable all-purpose cleaners for countertops, tables, and general surface wiping. No artificial fragrances, no dyes. It works just as well as the conventional stuff but does not leave your kitchen smelling like a chemical plant.

Bathroom Cleaner: For bathrooms, we use a citric-acid based cleaner that cuts through soap scum and hard water deposits without the harsh fumes. LA has hard water, so this matters a lot. Our bathroom cleaner dissolves mineral buildup without damaging tile or fixtures.

Glass Cleaner: A simple vinegar-based formula. Streak-free and completely non-toxic. Your mirrors and windows look perfect, and there is zero residue left behind.

Floor Cleaner: Depends on the floor type. For hardwood, we use a pH-neutral cleaner that will not strip the finish. For tile and stone, something slightly stronger but still plant-based. We never use anything that leaves a waxy buildup.

Disinfectant: For high-touch surfaces like door handles, light switches, and toilet seats, we use a hydrogen-peroxide based disinfectant. It kills germs effectively and breaks down into water and oxygen. No toxic residue.

What We Avoid

• Bleach (except in specific situations where a client requests it)
• Ammonia-based cleaners
• Anything with artificial fragrances or dyes
• Aerosol sprays
• Products with phthalates or parabens

Does Eco-Friendly Actually Clean as Well?

Yes. Period. The idea that you need harsh chemicals to get things clean is outdated. Modern plant-based formulations are incredibly effective. I would not use them if they did not work. My reputation depends on every home looking and smelling amazing when we leave.
