Why Your Cleaning Company Keeps Canceling (and How to Find One That Won't)
Tired of getting canceled on? I run a cleaning company in LA and I am going to tell you exactly why this keeps happening and what to look for instead.
If you have hired a cleaning company in Los Angeles before, there is a good chance you have been canceled on. Maybe last minute. Maybe the day of. Maybe they just did not show up and you had to chase them for an explanation. It is frustrating and it is way too common in this industry.
I run Spotless Scrubbers, and "we actually show up" is legitimately one of our selling points. The fact that I can use basic reliability as a differentiator tells you everything about the state of cleaning services in LA. Let me explain why this happens and how to avoid it.
Why Cleaning Companies Cancel
They Overbook
This is the number one reason. A lot of cleaning companies, especially the bigger ones and the app-based ones, book more jobs than they can handle. They figure a certain percentage will cancel, so they overbook to compensate. When nobody cancels, someone gets dropped. That someone is usually you.
They Use Independent Contractors
Many companies, especially the ones you find through apps, do not actually employ their cleaners. They are platforms that connect you with independent contractors. The problem? Those contractors can accept or decline jobs whenever they want. If something better comes along or they just do not feel like it, your cleaning gets canceled.
They Do Not Pay Their People Well
Low pay equals high turnover. If a company is charging you rock-bottom prices, they are paying their cleaners even less. Those cleaners are always looking for something better, and when they find it, they leave. That means your regular cleaner disappears and you get rescheduled or canceled while they scramble to fill the spot.
No Real Management
Some companies are basically one person with a phone and a list of subcontractors. There is no operational backbone. No scheduling system. No accountability. When things go sideways, and they always do, there is nobody managing the situation.
How to Find a Company That Will Not Cancel
Ask if they employ their cleaners directly
At Spotless Scrubbers, every cleaner is on my team. I hired them, I trained them, I manage their schedule. They are not random contractors who can opt out whenever they want. When you book with us, you are booked. Period.
Check their reviews for reliability mentions
When you read Google reviews, do not just look at the star rating. Look for words like "reliable," "on time," "never cancels," "consistent." If you see a pattern of people praising a company just for showing up, it tells you two things: the company is reliable, and the bar in this industry is incredibly low.
Ask about their cancellation policy
A good cleaning company will have a clear cancellation policy that goes both ways. We give our clients 24-hour notice if we ever need to reschedule (which is rare). And we ask the same from them. Mutual respect.
Avoid the cheapest option
I know nobody wants to hear this, but the cheapest cleaning company is almost always the least reliable. You do not have to go luxury, but if someone is offering a full house clean for $60 in LA, they are cutting corners. Probably on insurance, probably on wages, and definitely on reliability.
Look for a company with a real person behind it
Can you actually talk to the owner or a manager? Or are you just interacting with a chat bot and an app? When issues come up (and they will eventually, we are all human), you want to be able to reach a real person who will make it right.
At Spotless Scrubbers, if something is not right, just let us know. We come back and fix it — no charge.
The Bottom Line
You should not have to wonder whether your cleaning company is going to show up. That is the bare minimum. We have been cleaning homes and offices across LA County since 2023, from Hawthorne to Whittier to Alhambra, and we have never canceled on a client. That is not an exaggeration.
